Even if you land your dream job, it might not be with your dream company.
A lot can affect job satisfaction, from company culture to employee relations. If there’s a bad vibe in the office, it’s going to take its toll on your performance.
Then there’s the disparity that often arises between the amount of work that you do and the compensation that you get for it.
Is any of this sounding familiar? If so, it might be time for a change.
When considering your new career path, it’s worth taking a look at the Top Employers Institute’s ranking of the top employers in South Africa for 2020.
BusinessTech notes that the companies that made the list scored high in terms of employee conditions.
All of the companies on the list were evaluated across the following key areas:
- Talent strategy;
- Workforce planning;
- On-boarding;
- Learning & development;
- Performance management;
- Leadership development;
- Career & succession management;
- Compensation & benefits;
- Culture.
Before heading into the top 10, it’s important to note that the Top Employers certification is by application, so only companies that apply for certification are eligible for certification.

6. EY
You may recall our story from August, where Karen Ward, a former partner at the Ernst & Young, detailed a number of examples of sexual harassment in the workplace.
Then there was our story from October that detailed even more incidents of sexism, including one presentation where women were described as having brains that “absorb information like pancakes soak up syrup so it’s hard for them to focus”.
I’m assuming the South African branch handles itself better if they made this list.
