November 14.
Mark that date down as the first time you saw the John Lewis 2019 Christmas advert.
Now we just wait for the carols to start, and the tinsel to go up, and all the other ‘joys’ that come with festive season marketing.
Oh, and if you’ve seen the John Lewis ad already, what the hell are you doing reading this?
Every year, the UK department store rolls out a blockbuster to punt their wares, and last year’s #EltonJohnLewis effort was actually pretty darn good.
Let’s just say it was far better received than 2017’s ‘Moz the Monster’, when accusations of plagiarism were thrown around.
For more on 2019’s effort, here’s Sky News:
The two-and-a-half minute ad called Excitable Edgar is the retailer’s first joint Christmas campaign with Waitrose, and also stars a young girl called Ava, Edgar’s best friend, who attempts to limit his damage.
The retailers declined to disclose the cost of the ad, saying that it was a “natural next step” in bringing the two brands together.
It was filmed in Budapest with an extras cast of around 100 people and is set to a recording of EO Speedwagon’s Can’t Fight This Feeling by Dan Smith from the band Bastille.
Blow us away, Edgar:
Well, that’s actually kind of touching.
Like a children’s version of Game of Thrones, or something.
