In case you missed the news, Ricky Gervais has agreed to host the 2020 Golden Globes, which should ensure that some of Hollywood’s biggest names spend the night of January 5 with sweaty palms.

Having said that 2016, his fourth hosting gig, would be his last, he’s now stated that next year’s fifth go at the helm will be “his very last time”.

Given how many people he’s upset in the past, it’s a surprise that organisers would still offer it to him, because his 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2016 jokes are already the stuff of legend.

Many have speculated that the Golden Globes’ decision to ask Gervais back is due to a drop in ratings over the past few years. They may well see a boost this time around, but organisers will also be sweating when the Brit takes to the stage.

Either way, the Golden Globes may actually be worth watching this time around.
