This one goes out to Andrew Allison.
Yesterday we broke this story about Keanu Reeves and his new girlfriend, Alexandra Grant. Well, we didn’t actually break it, I just said that for the peeps who get so angry that we use other news companies as sources, even though they keep coming back, religiously.
I mean, why didn’t we get this story ourselves, direct from Keanu? Similarly, why didn’t the BBC do an original story on this larva thing, rather than STEALING from Big Island Now as a news source?
Rant aside, it seems our shortening attention span and propensity for skimming anything we see, has resulted in Keanu Reeves dating Helen Mirren, rather than Alexandra Grant.
Because this…
So that’s Alexandra Grant on the left, Keanu’s girlfriend. Yesterday he ‘revealed’ her to the world.
Here’s Alexandra Grant compared side-by-side with actress Helen Mirren.
That’s Helen on the left. I get it. They’re quite similar.
Needless to say, a large portion of the internet thought Keanu was dating Helen, because headlines read “Keanu Reveals New Girlfriend” and a quick glance at the picture showed him next to someone who looked like Helen Mirren (and why read a single word of the actual article?).
The irony is that the majority of the original articles made mention of how Keanu was bucking Hollywood’s Dennis Quaid trend of dating a much younger woman, quite content with someone closer to his age. Whilst he is 55 and Alexandra is 46, he would have really done them proud if it was Helen, who weighs in at 74 years of age.
“God, she looks incredible.”
Helen did comment on the case of mistaken identity with this, from CNN (who STOLE from Entertainment Tonight):
Mirren talked about the case of mistaken identity to “Entertainment Tonight” Wednesday while on the red carpet for the premiere of her new movie “The Good Liar” in New York City.
“I saw that,” Mirren said. “That was very flattering on me, you know, because she’s obviously lovely.”
Mirren has been happily married to director Taylor Hackford since 1997 and said she actually knows Reeves because of her husband.Hackford worked with Reeves on the 1997 film “The Devil’s Advocate.”
“I do know Keanu very well. He did a film with my husband and he is just the most adorable, lovely person,” Mirren said. “So she’s a lucky girl and I’m sure that he’s a lucky boy.”
So there you go, all’s well that ends well.
