There’s a lot of pain behind those robot eyes.
Watching South Africa’s Parliamentary proceedings is often cringeworthy, but we can take consolation in the fact that American political theatre can be just as farcical.
You may recall that when Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg appeared in front of the Senate Judiciary and Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation committees last year, some ridiculous questions were asked.
For a taste, here’s Senator Brian Schatz:
[He] repeatedly asked Zuckerberg whether Facebook could see emails he sends on WhatsApp, which Facebook owns. You don’t send emails via WhatsApp, and WhatsApp is encrypted, meaning it can’t be accessed by outside parties.
This is why you don’t let Boomers who type birthday messages to Facebook friends into their statuses grill the tech geek who started the website that will one day end in the destruction of humanity as we know it.
Enter Zuckerberg’s latest appearance, before the House Financial Services Committee, where he was asked questions about Facebook’s data, political ads, and the company’s plans for cryptocurrency project Libra.
For some reason, California Representative Katie Porter decided to lighten the mood with a quip about Zuckerberg’s haircut.
Was it a terrible ‘do that deserved to be mocked on social media? Sure, but why do these politicians try and slip something ‘witty’ in before getting to their actual questions?
You only have five minutes each, but you choose to waste some of that time trying to be funny…
Sick burn, Karen. Sorry, I mean Katie.
Rumour has it that later in the day, she accidentally replied to a photo on Facebook with an inappropriate GIF, and then posted a further three comments about how she doesn’t know how to delete it.
With regards, Zuck’s haircut, this about sums it up:
Here’s the most humiliating moment of all, where Georgien politician Barry Loudermilk (real name) compared him to Trump:
During a hearing on Capitol Hill, a lawmaker compared Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to President Trump. The reactions were… well, awkward. https://t.co/1DrpFKlR8E pic.twitter.com/CGCXrvLUAg

That’s gotta hurt far more than sporting a crummy bowl cut.
To finish, let’s see somebody who didn’t waste their time – Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez gave Zuck a good grilling:
