It’s commonly believed that the real popularity of cryptocurrencies and everything blockchain began in 2017 when prices quickly shot up and Bitcoin reached a peak of almost $20 000. Before this event, most of the people involved in this industry were either developers or pretty savvy investors that saw massive potential in Bitcoin.
Unfortunately, the 2017 peak didn’t last too long and Bitcoin, alongside every altcoin, entered what’s now referred to as the “Crypto Winter”. During this crypto winter and the months that followed it, cryptocurrencies lost nearly 80% of their market volume, thus discouraging a lot of investors from ever trying it again.
The market crash was mostly due to supply/demand issues as well as an overhyped product, but financial regulation and the heckles of politicians also played a major role, and will continue to do so in the future.
But, there was no mention of cryptos losing popularity, though. As people like to call it, “Bad PR is still PR”. Therefore, even despite the massive losses during the 2018 Crypto Winter, Bitcoin and all of the top altcoins are still at the height of their popularity, especially with celebrities that like to voice their opinions quite often.
This observation can be found in this Inside Bitcoins review about Bitcoin Loophole, which is an automatic trading tool with a considerable number of investors. Public figures already seem to be investing their fortunes in cryptocurrency, and more seem to be jumping on board with cryptocurrency for business ventures and other opportunities.
Bill Gates
If you know what Bill Gates does and how he made his billions, it should be no surprise for you to find out that he is a very vocal supporter of cryptocurrencies. He definitely had some reservations about Bitcoin more recently, though he remains one of the most well-known Bitcoin investors in the world (even if you just found out about it).
“Bitcoin is exciting because it shows how cheap it can be,” he said in one of the interviews. “Bitcoin is better than currency in that you don’t have to be physically in the same place and, of course, for large transactions, currency can get pretty inconvenient,” he also stated in the interview.
Gwyneth Paltrow
Gwyneth Paltrow is a beloved public figure, due to her attitude towards her fans as well as her involvement with dozens of charitable ventures. She definitely receives a lot of attention on social media, mostly for advice. She is well known for her healthy lifestyle and the Goop – lifestyle platform, as well as a number of other business ventures she is involved in.
Gwyneth is another advocate of cryptocurrency. In fact, she was once the face of a Bitcoin wallet called Abra, of which she became an Advisor in August 2017, the moment cryptos started to peak. She often shares articles about Bitcoin investment strategies and the basics of cryptocurrency.
Ashton Kutcher
Ashton Kutcher, who has starred in multiple Hollywood movies is a proud investor of UnikoinGold, a digital e-sports gaming website that uses cryptocurrencies exclusively. All of this happened after a few months of founding his own firm, A-Grade.
UnikoinGold is a custom cryptocurrency used by Unikrn, the e-sports gaming company mentioned above. UnikoinGold is basically a currency to be used for betting on games like League of Legends, Dota 2 and Counter-Strike.
Besides his prompt venture in both e-sports and cryptocurrencies, Kutcher is also a proud investor of Uber, Airbnb, and BitPay.
Hugh Laurie
Have you ever watched House? If not, then you most probably have heard of the most well-known doctor in the world, Doctor Gregory House.
From now on, you’ll know that not only is he famous for his role in a successful TV series but for making an investment of $5 000 in BTC in 2015. To put this into perspective, the highest price Bitcoin had in 2015 was $375, meaning that Laurie got 13,3 BTC at the very least. That investment would have landed him $250,000 in profit in 2017.
It is also a well-known fact that Hugh Laurie was not much in favour of cryptos in the beginning, though he got attracted to the idea thanks to a friend.
Mike Tyson
One of the most beloved personalities in maybe the entire boxing industry, Tyson is not only famous due to his extremely successful career in boxing, but due to his multiple business ventures as well as cameos in several Hollywood movies. But most of all, we believe he’s famous due to the tattoo that he has on his face.
Tyson has not only invested in Bitcoin but has manufactured Bitcoin ATMs branded with his face tattoo. In collaboration with Bitcoin Direct, he also came up with a Bitcoin Wallet with the same branding as the ATM.
There are also rumours that Tyson is going to expand his weed business through Bitcoin in the nearest future. A nice combo, isn’t it?
Lionel Messi
Lionel Messi has been embroiled in many financial scandals over the past years. They have definitely impacted his reputation and disappointed his fans, but increased his popularity as well.
But soon after the scandals, Messi seems to have hired a professional financial manager, as his future ventures were a lot more “lucrative”.
Lionel Messi became the brand ambassador for an Israeli company Sirin Labs in 2017. The company was producing the world’s first crypto smartphone and, according to Messi’s Instagram, the footballer seems to be backing it.
Madonna
Madonna is one of many public figures involved in spreading the word about how easy and secure the cryptocurrency payment method is in the modern world.
The celebrity teamed up with Facebook and Ripple last year in an online fundraiser for her Raising Malawi foundation. Ripple matched each dollar donated to the campaign, with Madonna describing Ripple’s involvement as “generous commitment” to her organisation.
With this being said, there are many more celebrities and public figures or “Bitcoinians” as we like to refer to them. But mentioning them all would take a lot of time as mentioned earlier.
It is guaranteed that as time passes, cryptocurrencies will find newer ways to amaze us and display their true value. The speed at which trading strategies evolve and change is sometimes hard to keep up with.
As you can see, this industry is completely and utterly unpredictable, and that’s why people love it so much.
