If you want this story’s first red flag, you should know that the salon is called ‘Nail Me’.
You know, because it’s a sex joke but also a salon does people’s nails? Highbrow stuff.
Jozi’s Eastgate Mall is the scene of this meltdown, which shows the salon’s owner being verbally abusive to her staff. The videos were reportedly taken on Tuesday, with TimesLIVE picking up on the story yesterday.
As you will see, the first video starts with an angry rant about the length of a bathroom visit, and things snowball from there.
To begin:
OK, that’s unacceptable.
Bosses can and will sometimes lose their tempers, but this is completely over the top.
Things only get worse in the second video:
For those of you who might be thinking that the owner is just having a bad day, consider that this isn’t the first time her behaviour has come under scrutiny:
A number of people have written reviews of the salon on Facebook, many of which also highlighted the alleged abuse of the owner.
In February this year, Siphesihle Sithole detailed her experience at Nail Me.
“Worst experience of my life! The owner is rude towards customers. I walked out without paying because she had called me funny names and swore at me. The lady got infuriated when I asked her why can’t I drink my soda in the shop. She told me to get out,” wrote Sithole.
In the wake of the videos spreading across social media, Eastgate Mall spokesperson Alana Hoskin said the owner’s behaviour “did not reflect the values of the centre”.
Hoskin added that the store hadn’t opened for business yesterday, with the owner seeking legal advice.
Remember that list of the leading reasons why South Africans hate their bosses? Go ahead and add meltdowns.
