Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker is out, and the reviews have taken a predictable turn.
Once everyone tires of the endless promotion and positivity, things take a turn south, and the movie has been roundly panned by a number of critics.
Still, Joker is laughing all the way to the box office, smashing records and bringing home the bacon, so clearly the poor reviews haven’t dampened the public’s enthusiasm.
Enough about Joker, though, because let’s talk about Grouch. This from VICE:
Saturday Night Live is back and spotty as ever, but between last week’s opening monologue from Phoebe Waller-Bridge and this week’s genius new movie parody, it looks like the show’s still got it.
During this Saturday’s episode, host David Harbour starred in a fake trailer about another Joker-style origin story about a very different—but equally as beloved—anti-hero: Oscar the Grouch.
…as fun as the Sesame Street references are or whatever, it’s Harbour who really makes the parody work—he nails it perfectly, right down to his Joaquin Phoenix impression.
I’ve only seen the trailer for Joker, but judging by that, Harbour is on the money:
This #SNL Joker parody (“Grouch”) is a masterpiece.pic.twitter.com/e7GAdP3H5E
