I scratched America off the list of places I’d like to visit as soon as they elected the world’s largest toddler into office, with the exception of one city.
New York.
New York is the most populous and cosmopolitan city in the United States, and is home to the largest foreign-born population of any city in the world. As many as 800 languages are spoken there.
It’s also a cultural hub (hello, Broadway) made up of five diverse boroughs – Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island.
All of this makes it one of the most interesting places on the planet.
If like me, you’d like to explore New York but don’t have the funds right now to make the trip, the internet is here to help.
Walks NY is a YouTube channel that takes you on guided tours through New York. You won’t find the usual tourists traps here. Instead, experience the city like a local.
If you’re already a local, it’s a great way to discover hidden gems in your neighbourhood.
Spend your Sunday afternoon taking in a game of stickball in Brooklyn:
How about a taste of the Carribean in Queens?
The channel is relatively new, so you’ll want to subscribe to get the latest videos as they come out.
By the time you’ve booked your leave and saved the cash to visit in person, you’ll know enough about the city to navigate it like a pro.
Happy travels.
