Guy Ritchie is back, and his latest movie looks like it could be well worth watching.
Starring a number of Hollywood heavyweights – Hugh Grant and Matthew McConaughey, amongst others – The Gentlemen is a crime comedy that fans are hopeful will bring back the glory days of Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.
Fans are probably reaching, because both of those were gems, but here’s a summary of what you’re in store for from Vanity Fair:
The Gentlemen revolves around Mickey Pearson (McConaughey), an ex-pat in London looking to shuffle off his weed empire (The Beach Bum, but make it posh). The big sell draws the attention of British ne’er-do-wells all around, including a villain played by magnificently coiffed Crazy Rich Asians breakout Henry Golding. The rest of the cast is rounded out by Hugh Grant as Fletcher, the titillated narrator who speaks in a sort of Cockney swirl; Colin Farrell, Charlie Hunnam, and Michelle Dockery.
It also features Succession’s Jeremy Strong (aka Kendall Roy), and it would be remiss of me not to mention that you need to start watching Succession right now.
TV’s most dysfunctional family really is a joy to behold.
OK, back to Ritchie and The Gentlemen:
You will have to wait until January 24, 2020, before you get to see if this lives up to the hype.
