People fighting in the street isn’t really a laughing matter, but it’s tough not to find the now infamous Pretoria North brawl video from a few weeks back at least a little amusing.
There’s just so much going on, although the woman screaming ‘Hugo, bel die polisie’ is definitely one of the stars of the show.
As soon as I saw the video, I knew the remixes would come flying in, because South Africans tend to enjoy poking fun at situations like this.
My Bok Boks got the treatment, that SARS IT chief’s trainwreck interview got the treatment, and now we’re going to look at who has cracked the finest remix of the brawl in question.
Let’s start with the original, which we have already covered, just to set the scene:
Did Hugo call the cops? Was anybody arrested? Perhaps we will never know.
Alright, remix time. This one, via Ashwin Ash Le Breton, has cracked more than 300 000 views on Facebook alone:
Not bad.
I would guess that above inspired this video, which has around 11 000 views:
This remix loses points for a lack of visuals, but it’s a catchy track nonetheless:
55 000 views at the time of writing, and climbing steadily. You can bet it was played in at least one Pretoria bar this weekend.
Also featuring in this remix compilation is a sort of dubstep effort via Geo FUN, with some hard drops:
Out of courtesy, I’ll mention that somebody called DJ Wally also made an effort, but I won’t put you through the near-four minutes I endured listening to it.
For those who live on the other side of the Boerewors Curtain (Belville and beyond), you may find some humour in this.
I’m a sucker for the soft, soothing tones of Sir David Attenborough (and if you aren’t, you can get out right now), and this is an interesting crossover:
That one is ticking along at around 23 000 views.
So, who did it best? I mean, do we have to pick a winner?
In the end, just spending a few minutes on a Monday doing something other than work makes everyone who reads this a winner.
To Hugo, and everyone else, we say good day.
