Back in the day, before there was DStv and Showmax and all the other options vying for your attention, Sunday evenings were dominated by Carte Blanche.
It was always a good laugh watching some unscrupulous business owner panicking at the sight of Derek Watts, or a shady character putting on a fake accent and pretending like he was actually ‘not in the office right now’.
Time and time again, crooks were caught in the act, and watching them sweat somewhat softened the blow of the weekend slipping away.
On this past Sunday’s episode, the team went after an identity thief, and it was one of those segments that makes you think back to some of the classics from years gone by.
This from their website:
As commonplace as identity fraud has become in South Africa, it’s rare to catch the perpetrators in the act. Operating in Johannesburg, a syndicate that has hijacked the identities of several victims country-wide and caused havoc for the companies they tried to defraud, gets the special Carte Blanche treatment as we track down the culprits and join the police in catching the ring-leader red-handed.
Pants down, in the act, red-handed and game over:
