The last time we heard from James Dalton, he was penning a heartfelt tribute to his ‘brother’ and World Cup-winning teammate, James Small.
Dalton said that both he and Small were “misunderstood individuals”, and “guilty of silly behaviour”, and I think this footage falls into the second category.
News24 has obtained cellphone footage of Dalton fighting with security outside an unnamed Sea Point restaurant, with the incident said to have occurred on Saturday night.
Coming so soon in the wake of the allegations against Eben Etzebeth, it’s not a great look:
In the video, Avenue Response guards can be seen attempting to restrain the former Bok; he then gets into a scrap with another patron before Dalton and a guard fall to the ground.
According to eyewitnesses, the dispute between Dalton and the patron began inside the venue and the scuffle spilt out onto the street.
They also claim it is the second such incident involving Dalton at the same venue in as many weeks.
Given the passing of Small and Chester Williams in recent times, perhaps Dalton is under serious strain at present.
Anyway, here’s that cellphone footage:
Took a fair few men to get him down.
It should be noted that the original video features Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean blaring out of the restaurant during the brawl, which you can hear in this version.
Dalton was approached by News24 for comment:
“It’s over, it’s done, it’s nothing, it’s all sorted. You can verify that. It’s a storm in a teacup.
“There’s no story but you guys like to embarrass celebrities even after they are dead.
“It’s nothing. It’s done.”
He then went on the attack:
Dalton threatened that he would take action if the video was published: “Decide if you want to do anything and if you do, I will come for you and I will come for you in your personal capacity.”
A director from the security company involved, Avenue Response, said that the matter had “been sorted out amicably”, and whilst “there were charges…the parties have met and it’s all sorted now”.
Some reports suggest that one of the security guards involved in the fight was bitten in the face.
