As you might have guessed from Trevor’s facial expression above, he’s not really a fan.
Recently, the sickening truth behind South Africa’s canned lion hunting industry was laid bare for all to see, and the shooting of iconic Namibian elephant ‘Voortrekker’ also showed how money often trumps morals.
For a third hat thrown into the mix, let’s remember Skye the lion, shot and killed for sport along the border of the Kruger National Park.
Whilst I find hunting for sport a disgusting practice, many point to the defence that trophy hunting often funds conservation efforts and the preservation of vast tracts of land.
This is a hotly contested, controversial, and largely polarised topic of debate, with each side presenting statistics and arguments that support their viewpoint.
For a reasonable, rational response (that conveniently corresponds with my view that trophy hunting is disgusting), read this.
Anyway, enough waffling, because you came to see what Trevor thinks.
The Daily Show’s video says the segment covers “a breakdown of trophy hunters’ claims about the benefits of killing wild game for sport, a practice further enabled by Trump’s rollbacks of Obama-era endangered species protections”.
Over to T-No:
A pretty simplistic approach, but he makes some good points.
