It’s not often that Pretoria is the envy of Capetonians.
No offence, Pretoria – you’re great – but we have the sea and the mountain and we’re pretty smug about it.
Earlier this year, however, Pretoria hosted the Fitch & Leedes Gin & Tonic Festival. We pretended that we didn’t care, but we did.
If you’re still feeling a bit sore about it, Capetonians, I have something that will take the sting off.
Later this month, the Fitch & Leedes Gin & Tonic Festival is coming to Cape Town.
You have a couple of weeks to go before it’s happening, but I wanted to make sure that you jotted the date down in your calendar. After all, you’re Capetonian, which means that you’re unlikely to change your plans and make an effort unless you know well in advance.
Kicking off at midday (12PM) on Saturday, September 28, and lasting until 8PM, this time around it’s taking place at the Lookout at the V&A Waterfront – the perfect setting for a Saturday sundowner.
Now some celebrate September 1 as the start of spring, and we don’t see anything wrong with that, although spring only ‘officially’ starts in the southern hemisphere on September 23. That’s a Monday, and you’re not a heathen, so let’s call the following weekend your chance to start spring in style.
Here’s how things are going to work:
Grab your Festival Gin glass upon arrival and head to the cash loading station to load money onto a Howler card (the event is completely cashless and hassle-free).
Once you have your Howler card sorted, take a stroll through the various Gin Bars where you can choose to purchase your gins as either tasters, singles, or double perfect serve G&Ts. Each gin is perfectly paired with nothing but the freshest and finest garnishes to tantalise your tastebuds and compliment each individual gin’s botanicals.
You’ll also be enjoying your gin with a range of bespoke mixers from the international award-winning Fitch & Leedes range – delicately carbonated, finely balanced, and infused with the world’s finest flavours.
Tickets include entry into the event. as well as a complimentary Festival Gin glass and a free gin taster.
Diarise the following:

Please note tickets are limited, and tickets are now available at Webtickets, so get yours early to avoid disappointment.
For more info, check out the event’s Facebook page.
While you wait for September 28, you can create your own mini-festival at home with the Fitch & Leedes range of mixers.
Enjoy yourself, Cape Town.
