Facebook neighbourhood groups love to argue about stop street offenders who don’t slow down sufficiently, and I’ve seen some great back and forths these past few weeks.
This video, though, falls into a different category. I think we can all agree that this driver needs a talking to.
Filmed last Thursday, driving on the M3 that should have been headed to Tokai – maybe ending up in a visit to Blue Route Mall – the woman is headed straight into oncoming traffic.
News24 spoke with the man who filmed the video:
“I looked at this woman and thought, ‘what’s going on here?’,” he told News24.
He immediately got his cellphone out and recorded the woman casually driving in the emergency lane against oncoming traffic.
“She was so oblivious, cars were hooting at her and she just kept driving.”
He said the woman looked like she was in her 80s.
“I followed her for at least 10km before I lost her,” he said
Here’s the footage:
Clearly, the woman on the wrong side of the road poses a danger, but I’m sure some would comment that this man is using his cellphone whilst driving.
All in all, road safety was the loser:
City of Cape Town traffic services spokesperson Maxine Bezuidenhout told News24 that the incident had not been reported.
“We didn’t get that call. We only got the video after the incident,” she said.
Where possible, please try and drive on the correct side of the road.
