Most people are pretty sure they’d recognise the Queen if they ran into her.
She is, after all, the world’s most famous monarch.
Fans of The Crown will also know that the Queen likes nothing more than a stroll in the gardens. She also makes a point of spending some time at Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, every year.
When on her walks, she wears the same outfit that she’s worn since she was in her early 20s.
Headscarf and tweed.
The point I’m trying to make here is that none of this is privileged information, which is why a group of American tourists should feel a little silly.
Here’s The Daily Mail:
The 93-year-old monarch had been out for a stroll in the grounds of Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, accompanied by protection officer Richard Griffin.
She was dressed in tweeds and wearing a headscarf when she came across the group of tourists.
Unaware of who she was they struck up a conversation and asked her if she lived in the area to which she replied that she did indeed have a house nearby.
They went on to question whether she had ever met the Queen herself.
That must have been a weird moment. She handled it well, though.
Not wanting to reveal who she was, she enjoyed a private joke as she gestured towards Mr Griffin and said: ‘No but this policeman has.’
Mr Griffin has worked closely with the royal family for more than 30 years.
Speaking to the Times, he said that the group moved on after a short while and remained oblivious to her true identity.
It’s nice to know that she still has a sense of humour.
While we’re on the topic of tourists, South Africa is expecting three high-profile arrivals very soon.
We told you a while back that Meghan and Harry might be relocating to Cape Town.
While there’s no more news on that front, we do know that the couple and royal baby are planning a trip to South Africa very soon.
Channel24 has more from the Prince, himself.
“In just a few weeks our family will be taking its first official tour to Africa, a region of the world that over the past two decades has been a second home to me. Our team has helped create a meaningful programme that we’re so excited to share with you.
“On a personal note, I can’t wait to introduce my wife and son to South Africa! We’ll see all of you very soon.”
Harry, Meghan, and baby Archie will all visit South Africa together, before the Prince heads off to Malawi, Angola, and Botswana on his own.
There are roughly 20 days until the tour kicks off.
Let the countdown begin.
And if you do run into them…make sure to ask them if they’ve met the Queen.
