Cape Town jewellery stores have been the target of a series of armed robberies over the past two months.
The attacks have happened early in the day, often in populated or busy locations like malls.
The most recent robbery took place at Blue Route Mall in Tokai on Monday.
TimesLIVE reports that in CCTV footage, the robbers can be seen smashing the counters to get to the jewellery.
The five men, two of whom were armed with guns, forced customers and staff to stay inside while they looted.
The entire heist played out in just 90 seconds.
Take a look:
Following the robbery, the men tried to escape but were chased down by a SAPS officer visiting the mall.
Over to News24:
A spokesperson for the mall said the gang had managed to get away with an undisclosed amount of goods.
“A SAPS officer visiting the mall gave chase and shots were fired in the parking lot.”
Rwexana said the vigilant police officer had observed the incident, gave chase and no injuries were reported.
“The member stopped the suspects in their tracks while they were trying to flee.”
Two men, aged 24 and 28, were arrested.
The men who were caught will appear in Wynberg Magistrate’s Court once charged.
In the meantime, give that officer a raise.
