When I hear of sign language interpreters going viral, I find it impossible to look past Thamsanqa Jantjie.
He would be the interpreter who became an international sensation after he duped his way into signing at Nelson Mandela’s funeral.
I’m not sure if sign language interpreter Amber Galloway Gallego will achieve the same levels of fame (or infamy) here in South Africa, but her efforts at a recent Twista concert are still mightily impressive.
Twista is often referred to as the world’s fastest rapper, busting out around 280 words a minute when at full speed, but Amber was more than a match for the Chicago musician at a recent concert:
Go off, sister.
Here’s TIME:
This isn’t the first time that Galloway Gallego, a certified American Sign Language interpreter for nearly two decades and advocate for equal access, has gotten some major love online for her work as a sign language interpreter; her distinctive moves have shared the stage with artists like Eminem, Snoop Dogg and Kendrick Lamar, the latter’s concert giving her one of her most memorable viral moments when she captured the essence of his expletive-ridden verse on A$AP Rocky’s “F*ckin’ Problems” at Lollapalooza in 2013.
You have to love her enthusiasm, although the sound quality below does leave a lot to be desired:
