As the Cape Town community continues to mourn the loss of Meghan Cremer, more details surrounding the suspects in her murder case are now coming to light.
Through the use of CCTV footage and the use of her bank card at a number of ATMs, law enforcement are putting together the pieces from the night of August 3.
Her car was seen leaving the farm where she lived, with TimesLIVE’s Anthony Molyneaux making this video, which tracks the movement of Meghan’s vehicle.
It also takes a closer look at one of the suspects, Jeremy Sias:
While those three suspects appeared in court, there is now a fourth suspect in the mix.
According to law enforcement sources that spoke with TimesLIVE, whilst police have publicly refused to comment, the investigation is now looking at a fourth suspect.
The suspect is the man believed to have used Meghan’s ATM card in Lotus River, and was captured by CCTV cameras:
The man photographed by the ATM’s camera is so feared in the Egoli informal settlement, which neighbours Cremer’s home in the Philippi farmlands, that residents there are afraid to even say his name…
An Egoli resident told the Sunday Times the man ran a chop shop (where stolen vehicles are disassembled) and had political connections. “He’s like a chief, very powerful. I’m very scared talking to you [about him],” said the man. “He’s dangerous, he’s friends with the leader of the 6 Bobs gang.”
…According to residents in Egoli, the suspect still sought by police is a “shack baron” who rules several settlements across Philippi and imposes his own set of laws.
It is believed that the man has now fled Cape Town, but many Egoli settlement residents are still terrified of the man they say “does whatever he wants at that place”:
Another resident and community watch member said they had their car tyres slashed and a house fire-bombed two months ago, and believed the incidents were a result of their opposition to the man’s activities. “He’s made a living hell for the people there. If they want electricity, they’ve got to pay him R1,250, and it’s illegal,” said a resident.
Whilst it is known that Meghan’s stolen vehicle was first publicly spotted in a roadblock hours after her abduction, the exact circumstances of what occurred had remained somewhat shrouded in mystery.
Now the man who spotted her car in that Wynberg roadblock, a 28-year-old driver at Woodstock Bakery where Cremer was a manager, is grappling with the fact that he didn’t press police to question the people in the vehicle at the time further.
Below from IOL:
“I think she would be alive today if I had convinced the cop,…I think she could have been in the boot.”
…The man told Weekend Argus how he came down from his flat at 11.30pm on Saturday, August 3, to buy a cooldrink from a shop in Main Road Wynberg near Pick n Pay when he unbelievably spotted her car.
He first thought Cremer was stopped by the police. But as he moved closer he noticed two women passengers in the car and a driver with his back to him standing next to the white Toyota Auris talking to a traffic officer.
Suspicious, he asked the women where Cremer was.
“They said, whose Meghan? I said this is her car and they told me I was lying. That was my alarm call that something was wrong.”
He said he alerted the traffic officer. “I told him that it’s my boss’ car. That I drive it twice a week and immediately recognised the CX number plate.
“But he didn’t believe me. He just laughed at me sarcastically. He said, ‘you are crazy. You’ve got no proof it’s her car. How do you know that she didn’t give it to these people to drive?’
“But he eventually agreed not to let the car go until I got hold of Meghan.”
At this point, he went to the bakery to call Meghan’s number, as his cellphone wasn’t working, but received no answer.
Upon returning to the roadblock, he saw that Meghan’s car was now gone, and police were packing up.
“Maybe I should have made more noise at the roadblock. Maybe I should have tried to open the boot myself. But my fear of the cops held me back.”
Perhaps the police also should have listened to the driver and taken his concerns to heart, rather than waiting for him to leave to phone Meghan and then releasing the vehicle.
