Maybe it’s because we’re so inept in the water, but there’s something about shark attacks that really fascinate people.
I’m a big fan of watching these supreme predators in action (only those orcas to worry about), from a safe distance, and this drone footage below is a reminder of their hunting prowess.
With Shark Week having just wrapped up, which always brings with it some incredible footage, let’s check out some of the local action that featured.
Here’s some info via the Marine Dynamics blog:
Air Jaws returns with a team of researchers, including Alison Towner and shark expert Chris Fallows, into a newly discovered shark vs. seal battleground at the base of a 200-foot cliff… Here, a deadly game of life and death plays out in waist-deep water. As the great whites stalk the seal colony, the seals have learned to team up and mount counter-attacks against the predators. And for the first time, these extraordinary predatory events are captured in their entirety by the researchers.
Marine Dynamics is a tour operator in Gansbaai, which they call “the undisputed great white shark capital of the world”.
Do your thing, super predator:
Let that serve as a reminder that if they wanted to eat you, they would.
In this video, Dr. Neil Hammershlag, Fallows, and drone pilot Dean Engela capture stunning footage of a Great White shark breach:
Now that’s an athlete.
