When you become filthy, stinkin’ rich, you have all the money in the world to do what you want.
How you spend it, though, becomes a matter of public interest, especially when people like Bill and Melinda Gates make a point of giving so much of their money away.
Jeff Bezos might have seen his Amazon shares whittled down after his divorce with MacKenzie (she is now Amazon’s second-largest individual shareholder, with 19,7 million shares worth $37 billion), but he’s still doing alright for himself.
When pictures started circulating that a superyacht, rumoured to cost $400 million (around R5,9 billion) and spotted off the coast of Turkey, belonged Bezos, there was quite a backlash.
Here’s Business Insider:
Turkish media first reported that the yacht was anchored off the coast of Datça, a popular tourist destination in Turkey, on July 9. Original tweets claiming that the yacht belongs to Bezos have since been deleted, along with the original photo, but screenshots continue to circulate on social media…
According to yacht statistics from the website Superyacht Times, the mega-yacht in question is called the “Flying Fox” and was constructed by yacht building company Lürsen Yachts. The Superyacht Times records it is 136.0 meters long and sleeps up to 22 guests, with a 54-person crew.
The Times also records the yacht as having been completed and become operational in 2019, with 36 guest cabins, including 11 VIP cabins, and 4 decks onboard. It is also reported to have a 12-meter swimming pool and is pictured to have a helicopter pad on deck.
You know, all the usual trappings of a mega-billionaire’s life of luxury. Makes Rafa Nadal’s new toy look like a rubber ducky.
Shall we enjoy a promo video? Indeed:
Yeah, that’s a rather decent boat.
This video gives you a closer look inside:
Via the Daily Mail, here’s more on the luxuries aboard:
The spa alone offers treatments such as Hammam, Sauna, Cryo Sauna and more, along with a team of highly skilled therapists.
The beauty center and massage rooms are located one-level above those facilities, as is the fully-equipped Gym area with the finest equipment available on the market and professional trainers.
Those yearning to go overboard can enjoy classic Sea Doo jet skis and other Seabobs, the exclusive Zapata flyboard and hoverboard, and nine tenders ready to whisk them off to shore for a night on the town.
One thing that the yacht does not seem to be though is eco-friendly, something that has never been of much concern to Bezos in the past.
Oh, you don’t say.
Must be horrible when people accuse you of owning a $400 million superyacht that isn’t yours.
