The 2019 Emmy nominations have been announced
HBO came out as the top network with an astounding 137 nominations, thanks in large part to Game of Thrones.
Predictable.
Then there were some nominations that seemed to come out of nowhere, and others that we thought would happen, that didn’t.
Here’s CNBC:
While “Veep,” “Game of Thrones” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” will get to bask in the Emmy’s spotlight until the awards ceremony in September, there are quite a few shows and actors that didn’t make Tuesday’s nomination list.
These include Jim Parsons for his role as Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory, Richard Madden who snapped up a Golden Globe for his role in The Bodyguard, the cast members of Saturday Night Live, and D’Arcy Carden from The Good Place.
Then, there were the programs no one had expected to show up on the ballot — looking at you “Schitt’s Creek” and “Nailed It!.”
Nailed It! shouldn’t exist – it’s the television show equivalent of hell – and the fact that it does makes me question everything. Now it’s been nominated for an Emmy…but Richard Madden wasn’t nominated…
Cue existential crisis.
More of the nominations that we didn’t see coming include Mandy Moore in This is Us. A welcome surprise is that more than half of the nominees in the category for outstanding writing for a comedy series are women.
