Love it or loathe it, South Africa, but The Bachelor SA is here to stay.
We’ve made it pretty clear how we feel about the ending of season one, in case you’re wondering where we stand.
Thanks to all of those who can’t stop watching – either as fans, because they love trainwrecks, or because they want to drink every time someone says ‘I feel a connection’ – M-Net is in for a second season.
Given that Love Island is a complete smash hit over in the UK, for entertainment like this, perhaps part of the allure of the show is those truly cringeworthy moments.
No doubting that there will be plenty of those, even without Lee Thompson there.
By the way, we just popped past Lee’s Instagram account for a quick check-in. Lots of staring into, and pensively away from, the camera:
I should add that the caption for the bottom left picture is “When I sea you there’s nothing I can’t do.”
So deep.
M-Net announced the show in a press release earlier this week:
M-Net has secured the rights to produce a second season of The Bachelor South Africa and viewers will join the show’s new leading man on his rollercoaster of romance in next year’s month of love, February 2020. Jason Greer will be at his side, reprising the role of the show’s level-headed host.
M-Net and production company Rapid Blue have also officially started their search for the lovely ladies who will be vying for the heart of the new Bachelor and pursuing the possibility of finding their “Mr Right”. Entries have opened online and will close on 20 August 2019 at 23:59.
“Even though our first season did not have the ‘happily-ever-after’ fairy-tale ending everyone wished for, we continue to believe in the power of love,” says Lani Lombard, M-Net’s Head of Publicity.
First of all, for those blokes who want to play the leading role, you’re in luck:
“We have not pinned down our man of the moment yet and will still consider more options,” Lombard admits. “The hottest-of-hot single men who are ready to bare their souls on television in order to find the love of their life and settle down are indeed part of a scarce, elusive species. Drop us a hint here if you’re the one or know the man. No chancers, please!”
OK, so you need to be hot, single, and ready to find lots of connections. Also, don’t be a chancer.

Moving on to the ladies, who will sign up to humiliate themselves whilst fighting over a man find love, and maybe enjoy their 15 minutes of fame whilst on telly:
To be part of the show, ladies have to be over 21 and single – either never married or divorced – and meet the requirements stipulated in the Terms and Conditions (published on mnet.tv). You need to fill out the short entry form on the M-Net website, where you will also be asked to submit two photographs of yourself.
Included in those Ts and Cs is that you must have a valid South African ID document, and that you will be available for filming between October 5 and December 5.
Remember those dates when you’re tweeting at the bachelor in March, telling him who to pick.
Go ahead and click the image below to play ball:
To really get you fired up, here’s some inspiration:
One more thing from those Ts and Cs, ladies:
By submitting your entry, you are granting M-Net and it’s [sic] production company permission to use your information to promote you and/or M-Net’s The Bachelor on any other platform of its choice.
You agree that your entry may be edited, modified, added to or deleted, juxtaposed with any other material and that any other changes to the entry may be made at the sole discretion of M-Net.
You agree further that M- Net may use your name, image, likeness, any photograph, voice, sobriquet and signature in connection with your entry and/or M-Net’s The Bachelor.
And you can kiss your social media rants goodbye:
All publicity, digital and social media activity around your involvement in MNet’s The Bachelor will be done by M-Net from the date of your audition until three months after the final broadcast of the series, unless otherwise indicated by M-Net.
What’s not to love?
Ladies have until August 20 to get those applications in. May your pursuit of happiness bear fruit.
