We speak often about how much bang for your buck, or lack thereof, you get property-wise in Cape Town.
Sometimes it’s fun to look a little further afield and see what the property market looks like overseas, and we figured London’s Mayfair was a good place to start.
Why? Well, it’s a very affluent area in the West End of London, and is often considered one of the most expensive districts in the world.
Now English rent is done by the week, rather than the month. When we looked around on Savills, the cheapest we could find was £475 a week, which is about R8 300.
Times by four, and that’s your R33 000 a month rental.
Yes, person chomping at the bit waiting to point out that you’re earning pounds if you live there, we know that. You can’t equate it to what you get for R33 000 a month here, and so on, so you can take a deep breath and relax.
Let’s look at this rental in Mayfair, then:
Beautiful double bedroom apartment which is presented in good condition throughout. The property comprises: double bedroom, bathroom, reception and kitchen.
Grosvenor Square is located a short walk to Bond Street Tube Station (0.2mile) with both Jubilee and Central line and 0.6miles to Green Park Tube Station with Jubilee, Piccadilly and Victoria Line.
Here’s where you know it’s going to be tiny – Thomas Sutton, the property agent, calls it “cosy but superb”.
It’s located in this building:
And ticks all the ‘cosy’ boxes:
I’ve seen worse. Remember that Sea Point ‘flat’ for R1,5 million?
In terms of space, you’re looking at 381 square feet, which is about 35 square metres.
Bonus Mayfair fact – Her Majesty The Queen was born in Mayfair. Elizabeth Windsor was born at her maternal grandfather’s London home on 17 Bruton Street.
You’re basically living amongst royalty.
