Much has changed since Pat Symcox was a South African cricketer.
Nowadays, the Proteas all sport slick hairdos and follow strict health regimes, whereas Symmo was often rumoured to sneak a ciggie out the back of the changing room midmatch.
One thing that hasn’t changed is his fiery disposition, although he’s now moved from the field to social media.
Exhibit A – that time Darren Scott called 5FM head Anthony Duke a drug addict, and Symmo waded in to say he was happy to pay Duke a visit.
Sadly, Exhibit B is less dramatic, but it does feature an unshaven Symmo venting his anger at a pothole in the road on the KZN south coast.
Miami Road near Hibberdene, viewership of 20 000 and counting, and the following video title:
Please SHARE the hell out of this. I’d like to shove that “new dawn” spoken about right up where the Sun doesn’t shine when I see this…
Are you even a Boomer if you don’t capitalise at least one word in your title? Anyway, the scene is set.
We’ll be adults about this and steer clear of the obvious ‘Pot Symcox’ pun. You deserve better.
Look, we all hate potholes.
Is there a certain age you cross where you start looking forward to social media rants, though? At that age, is it mandatory to do the ol’ selfie ‘talk to the camera’ thing?
We did a deep dive into Symmo’s Facebook page (we clicked ‘Videos’) for a look at what else he’s been posting about.
This one comes with the following title:
Good morning to all the upcountry folk out there. Just to remind you of the beauty that happens here on the coast every morning… Pssst: No traffic…
Get ready to have your socks knocked clean off by the sheer beauty:
Wow. Stunning.
For those who want to know what Symmo is up to business-wise these days, this should do the trick:
I suppose he’s leveraging his influence as a former national sportsman better than many others, so props for trying.
Potholes are bad, service delivery is poor, and we have a right to be angry about it. I just wonder what the bloke having a smoke around the corner and sledging the crowd at the MCG would have thought about all this…
