Reason number 10 945 that the SONA Red Carpet should be scrapped.
Before we delve into the very awkward exchange between Freedom Front Plus leader Pieter Groenewald and eNCA reporters Leanne Jansen and Samkelo Maseko, can we take a moment to consider some sort of mass action?
How do we, as South Africans, come together and make sure that we are not subjected to another year of the most vomit-inducing Red Carpet garbage outside of Hollywood?
Seriously now, enough is enough. Every cent spent on this farce, be it our tax money or the money of the various media outlets that deploy journalists to fawn over these so-called public servants, is a cent pissed down the loo.
That loo is a pit toilet, by the way, because whilst we can fly jets over Parliament and have brass bands tooting away to their hearts’ content, we remain fundamentally unable to provide the children of this country with a safe place to shit at school.
Four children have died in school pit latrines since 2014, so I feel like our public funds could really be redirected.
That’s aside from this infuriating point, succinctly raised by Tom Eaton:
I don’t care who they’re wearing, and we have reduced the governing of this country to a ridiculous fashion parade.
So, how about that Pieter Groenewald, hey?
Let’s get the basics via IOL:
Hofmeyr had tweeted that “you will die”, in a tweet that was addressed to DA MP Phumzile van Damme and Zindzi Mandela, the ambassador to Denmark.
The ANC said Hofmeyr’s tweet smacked of “barbarism, white supremacy and toxic masculinity”…
Quizzed about Hofmeyr’s tweet, Groenewald interjected and said he had not seen the tweet.
Apparently, if you click ‘Translate Tweet’ on Steve’s words, it just says ‘doos‘.
Now for the awkward exchange that ensued when Groenewald was pressed on the matter:
Groenewald quickly grew horns
Almost moered Samkelo there.Well done @samkelemaseko #SONA2019 #6thParliament #SteveHofmeyr #HandsOffZindziMandela pic.twitter.com/coxvKT8Bpa

I appreciate that he clearly doesn’t give one hoot about social media, which is something some local and international politicians could learn from, but one gets the feeling he has a rather short fuse.
Also, rewatch that video and pay attention to his wife’s face. About 45 seconds in, she realises this interview is going south.
Again, louder for those at the back – the SONA Red Carpet charade is a disgrace.
You create the petition to scrap this crime against humanity, and we will promote it.
