Over the weekend, American Gary Woodland held off the likes of Brooks Koepka and Justin Rose to win his first major, the US Open at Pebble Beach.
Woodland won a hefty $2,25 million (around R33 million) and a legion of new fans for his troubles, but he also won praise for his rather patriotic footwear.
His signature PUMA kicks sported the red, white and blue of the American flag, and it was all for a darn good cause.
Here’s Heavy:
Stars and stripes covered the heel of the shoes to cap off the patriotic design. The shoes go perfectly with Woodland’s PUMA special edition outfit that is a collaboration with Folds of Honor. Woodland’s U.S. Open shoes are part of PUMA’s Ignite series.
Woodland’s outfit is a nod to the PUMA Voilition collection with a portion of the proceeds going to support Folds of Honor…
This patriotic ensemble of clothing and footwear honors the US, and the men and women of the military. The apparel, footwear, and accessories from this collection supports the Folds of Honor Foundation, which provides scholarships and assistance to the families of fallen and disabled servicemen and women.
That’s a rather noble cause, so props to Woodland for his support.
The US Open winner’s grandfather was in the military, and this year signals a full decade that he’s been involved with the Folds of Honor Foundation:
Woodland said, “I’m proud to support the Folds of Honor and the brave men and women who serve. I’m excited to partner with PUMA, such a great athletic brand, helping me look and feel good on and off course.”
His bag was also rather patrotic, with a tip of the hat to the Folds of Honor Foundation:
Very American, but it’s a nice touch, so fair play to the winner.
Whilst you’re unlikely to want to don those same golf shoes here at home (they’re not going to take 10 shots off your round, either), you can check out the PUMA Ignite shoe series in PUMA SELECT stores around the country.
Oh, and good luck with getting your handicap down, too.
