We’re talking about the widely circulated video from this past Saturday’s Trooping the Colour ceremony.
Yeah, I didn’t know what that was, either.
According to Google, it’s a ceremony performed by regiments of the British and Commonwealth armies that’s been happening since the 17th century. The ‘colour’ refers to the flags.
Rad. Moving on.
The thing that really got everyone’s attention at Trooping the Colour was a supposedly tense exchange between Meghan and Harry.
Here’s Express:
The Duke of Sussex was caught in a tense exchange with his wife Meghan while she was stood in front of him. Trooping the Colour, which marked the Queen’s official birthday, saw Meghan Markle standing towards the right hand side of the balcony as the cameras saw it, in front of her husband Prince Harry but slightly behind Prince Andrew.
Video footage shows the royals talking amongst themselves, with Harry turning away from Meghan to speak to someone on his left.
Meghan turns her back to speak to Harry twice within a matter of seconds, prompting her husband to utter two brief phrases in response.
Let’s get a look at the offending video:
So the big scandal here is that it looks like Harry is telling Meghan off.
The big question is should we care? The short answer is no, but we’ll continue to unpack this anyway.
Bring in the lip-readers!
After turning to face Harry the first time, the MailOnline’s lip reader confirmed the Duke appeared to be answering a question, as he says: “Yes, that’s right.”
Meghan begins to return to her front-on pose, before turning back again, at which point Harry tells her: “Turn around,” the expert said.
As she continues to look at her husband, Harry adds: “Look,” as he points a meaningful glare towards the front of the balcony.
The Duchess then turns back around to face the front as the national anthem begins playing shortly afterwards.
Oh my heavens, they’re getting divorced.
Seriously, though, you’d also put on a straight face if ‘God Save the Queen’ started playing and the queen was standing less than a metre away from you.
Harry was basically making sure that Meghan adhered to royal protocol, and faced forward when the national anthem was played.
“Married Couple Has Minor Spat” seems to the crux of this story, then.
