The couple agreed to split the estate, with its two cottages and five apartments, spa, gymnasium and private harbour, as a timeshare – six months each – when they divorced in 2000.
Five years ago, Michael Douglas first put his s’Estaca estate in Mallorca on the market.
As you may have guessed, people haven’t really been biting, and now Douglas has turned to narrating a Hollywood-style promotional film trailer in an attempt to flog the estate.
He’s also had to take a massive hit on the asking estate for the 200-acre property, which is now on the market for €28,9 million (around R480 million), which is just over half of the original 2014 asking price of €55 million.
To set the scene, here’s the Telegraph:
“In the mid-19th century, Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Habsburg bought a large piece of land on the northwest coast of the island of Mallorca, and began to create a magical retreat,” begins Mr Douglas’s voiceover, as viewers are treated to helicopter-recorded footage of a romantically crenelated white palace on a thickly wooded cliff over sparkling Mediterranean waters.
Mr Douglas explains how he “fell under the spell” of the isolated paradise with its own vineyard and olive grove in 1990, when he bought the property with his now ex-wife Diandra Luker for a reported $3.5 million.

Sheesh, still taking home a sizeable profit there, Mikey.
Here’s the somewhat dramatic Hollywood-esque trailer, with the actor narrating:
Solid effort, but that price tag is still a beast.
By the way, Archduke Ludwig Salvator is an interesting chap:
Ludwig Salvator eschewed the stately pleasures of the Viennese court to sail around the world, studying insects and flora and eventually settling on Mallorca.
The unconventional archduke never married, but he fell in love with a local woman, Catalina Homar, who died of leprosy in 1905. He also hosted visits from his cousin, the Empress Elisabeth of Austria, better known as Sisi.
Big ups to Ludwig, and good luck to Michael with flogging his estate.
