When members from rival gangs happen to be in the same courthouse at the same time, things can kick off in an instant.
Earlier today, in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court, police had to act quickly to prevent a potentially deadly scene from unfolding, with Westbury rival gang members facing off in the corridors.
The leaders of the two gangs, Leeroy Brown (known as Finch) and Keenan Ebrahim, are both facing murder charges in unrelated cases.
News24 reports:
The confrontation between supporters of the two alleged gang bosses broke out before Brown’s case got underway.
A video of the commotion shows armed police officers forcing a man to the ground while ordering bystanders to move away from the scene of the action.
“Move, move!” police officials shouted as they apprehended the unidentified man.
Police tightened security around courtroom 15, where Brown was appearing, preventing people from entering.
You have to praise the quick and decisive action taken by the police:
OK, can we take a moment to discuss the policeman who casually strolls into the shot with his hand in his pocket around the 15-second mark?
All hell is breaking loose, there are guns being waved around, and your man on the left hardly seems flustered at all.
If only the Proteas batsmen could show similar coolness under pressure.
Brown’s case was postponed to June 7.
