There are part of Jeff Bezos’ life that I do not envy, like having to worry about his personal safety, having his divorce play out in public, and having his dick pics leaked.
Throw R36 000 a second at my face, however, and I’ll happily take all of that on the chin.
Jeff is worth an estimated $121 billion (around R1,7 trillion), although his annual Amazon salary is a meagre $81 840 (around R1,2 million).
That wouldn’t quite put him in South Africa’s top 1%, but it’s the money he makes from his Amazon shares that is the real breadwinner.
Via Business Insider, we’ll start with this graph:
That above was calculated by finding the difference between his 2017 and 2018 net worths, which is calculated in October of each year.
Here’s a real zinger of a stat:
Bezos is so rich that an average American spending $1 (R14,58) is similar to Bezos spending $1,2 million (R17.5 million).
The median net worth of an average US household is $97,300 (R1.4 million). Dividing $121 billion (R1.7 trillion) by $97,300 (R1.4 million) comes to about $1.2 million (R17 million), according to previous calculations by Business Insider.
Well damn, that’s just bonkers.
The Amazon CEO is nearly 38% richer than the British monarchy.
The British royal family is worth an estimated $88 billion (R1.2 trillion), according to Forbes.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Queenie.
Bezos is worth about the equivalent of the entire GDP of Angola.
About half of Angola’s $121 billion (R1.7 trillion) GDP comes from oil production, which accounts for more than 90% of the country’s exports.
Who needs oil when Amazon supplies the entire world with pretty much everything under the sun.
Also, South Africans can order from Amazon – it’s pretty simple.
Bezos’ net worth is greater than the GDP of Iceland, Afghanistan, and Costa Rica — combined.
Iceland’s GDP is about $31.6 billion (R460 billion), Afghanistan’s is $22.9 billion (R333.9 billion), and Costa Rica’s is $64.8 billion (R945 billion).
Raise your games, guys.
According to the Social Security Administration, the average American man with a bachelor’s degree will earn approximately $2.19 million (R31,94 million) in his lifetime. Bezos makes that in just under 15 minutes.
Bezos, who has a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University, makes about $149,353 (R2.1 million) every minute, according to calculations by Business Insider.
If I was Princeton, I would be hitting Bezos up for a sizeable donation.
It’s actually quite tough to wrap your head around being this rich. We often fantasise about winning the big lotteries, but for Bezos, winning tonight’s $475 million MegaMillions would barely register as an event.
Must be nice.
