Even though I’ll never meet Emmy-winning meteorologist Jamie Simpson in person, I respect the man.
First of all, it’s not exactly a career you hear kids talking about pursuing, so well played for going down the path less travelled.
Secondly, and this is the most important bit, Jamie is sick and tired of the idiocy of social media users, and that I will always get behind.
During a live broadcast on Monday night, Simpson’s network was forced to interrupt The Bachelorette so that they could warn Ohio residents about a tornado heading their way.
I don’t need to watch a second of The Bachelorette to know that it’s better than The Bachelor SA. When you choose a man-child and force women to compete for his heart (gotta feel that connection), it’s always going to crash and burn.
Anyway, whilst delivering his tornado warning, Simpson couldn’t help but vent about the social media reaction.
Unleash the fury:
Well, Jamie, if you work for anything Fox-related, you should expect nothing less from your viewers.
Let’s take a moment to enjoy Esquire’s take on the matter:
This season of The Bachelorette follows Hannah Brown, a former Miss Alabama, as she pares down her suitors from 30 to one. While The Bachelorette can be an entertaining show in its own right, it’s also hardly worth anyone dying over.
The storm Simpson was warning viewers about ripped through Ohio and Indiana on Monday causing massive damage and ultimately killing one person.
My favourite description of the show calls it a “reality-show-meets-soap-opera, in which square-jawed men with names like Chasen and Brian compete for the love of a woman who has just met them”.
I am almost certain there’s a guy called Chad on there as well.
We are reminded of just how prescient the 2006 movie Idiocracy is each and every day.
