The Parachute Guy That Crash-Landed At Cyril’s Inauguration [Videos]

During Saturday's Inauguration, one SA National Defence Force parachutist didn't cover himself in glory.

President Cyril Ramaphosa’s inauguration went as one would expect.

He said all the right things about a South Africa for all, it cost a shedload of money that could have been better spent in a thousand other ways, and the SA National Defence Force (SANDF) made a blunder or two.

The most high-profile blunder involved one of their parachutists, who crashed into a pole during his attempted landing on the Loftus Versveld turf.

Despite various media reports to the contrary, he wasn’t seriously injured. Here’s TimesLIVE:

“The reports on social media platforms that the member is in [an] intensive care unit are not true,” the SANDF said in a statement.

“The SANDF can confirm that the member received medical attention at the stadium and [was] released. The SANDF once again would like to caution the public not to spread incorrect and irresponsible information,” said Brigadier-General Mafi Mgobozi.

OK, but his pride certainly took a battering:

Even Cyril had a good chuckle.

Not as much of a chuckle as the guy filming this video, though:

In case you’re wondering, the parachutist crashed into a soft-shell mortar launcher.

Oh, and quite remarkably, SAA managed to pull something off without a hitch:

Here’s what the approach looked like from the stadium:

Nice to see that bailout money being put to good use.

If you’re really looking to kill time, here’s Ramaphosa’s full inauguration speech:

Right, time to get cracking and rebuild this country.
