The Venice Biennale showcases some of the best artists in the world.
Yet, despite the fact that people will drop $730 000 (around R10,35 million) on a Banksy just to destroy it, or $1,4 million on a Banksy (even after he tried to destroy it), he’s never been invited.
So this year, he crashed the party, set up a stall, and waited.
He posted a video of his stall on Instagram. In it, you can see a man setting up – possibly Banksy himself – with his face obscured by a hat and scarf.

The paintings allude to the controversy surrounding overtourism in Venice, with cruise ships a highly visible part of the problem. Huge numbers of visitors continue to strain the infrastructure of the city, and there have been calls to ban cruise ships in recent years. The final moments of the video show the stallholder wheeling away his wares; behind him, one such ship towers over a row of gondolas.

Still cool.
The Venice Biennale runs from May 11 to November 24.
