If we can learn one thing from the spread of fake news and viral hoaxes, it’s that people don’t really know how to use Google.
That, and they’re just plain lazy, which is why we constantly get sent panicked emails about some or other hoax doing the rounds.
Today’s lesson – take a few keywords, punch it into Google, and there’s your hoax debunked.
For example, all the old farts who insist on posting this nonsense to Facebook:
Copy and paste any passage from that text above into Google, and watch the magic happen:
Wow, it’s a Christmas miracle!
Much-maligned Millennials – if you want to do your bit for society today, explain to an older person how Google works, and the world will be a better place.
Anyway, we digress, because you came here to see what the top five Google search results for ‘how to’ are.
We’ll show you 10, and appreciate your patience up to this point:
We tested these in the office, and all of our searches returned the same results. If yours are different, then so be it.
I totally understand number one – valid question – but how does slime-making come in at number two? The top search result in that field yields an article from Home Science Live, who have four popular slime recipes.
A shout-out to all the pancake makers out there – we appreciate you – and given what happened with the recent WhatsApp hack, you should probably make sure you’ve updated that app right away.
Rogue dragons have been the talk of the town ever since a certain TV show aired a certain episode on Sunday (spoilers here), and then it’s a double weight-related ‘how to’.
I find it’s certainly easier to gain than it is to lose, but everyone is fighting their own battles.
Downloading from YouTube is easy enough, really, and then it’s all about deleting Facebook. The first step is not to be that person who says they’re deleting Facebook every few months and then doesn’t.
If you can’t bring yourself to do so, at least hit the “kill switch” and maximise your privacy settings.
Thanks for sticking around, and remember that ‘Google Search’ is your friend.
