I’m flat-hunting at the moment, which is its own special kind of hell.
I’m sure anyone who has participated in the apartment hunt ‘Hunger Games’ can relate.
Those of you who aren’t constrained by a regular-person-salary and have a few million you want to offload, this sprawling property in Cape Town might be just the ticket.
According to the listing on Property24, it’s “European elegance in the heart of Constania” – I think they mean Constantia.
This unique estate comprises a classic villa and exceptional amenities on over 25 000 m² (approximately 6 acres) of privacy in a glorious parkland garden with sweeping lawns, stately trees, shrubs, rose garden, vineyard, putting green, a magical cascade of large ponds and breathtaking views. The driveway curves down from imposing pillared gates through flowering shrubs to the front portico.
I got amped about 50m² the other day, so my priorities are clearly different.
The ground floor of the principal house has a spacious entrance hall leading to a sophisticated drawing room and dining room, a study and family room, which, with relaxed patio areas, offer an unequalled lifestyle enhanced by the heated swimming pool with hydrotherapeutic jets and an outdoor sun deck.
The whole of the first floor (no photos sadly) is designed so that you don’t have to interact with your children.
On the 1st floor is the main bedroom, sitting room, dressing room and 2 his-and-hers bathrooms and private patio with views to the Helderberg mountains.
There are 2 further bedroom suites and upstairs study/4th bedroom. Adjoining the house is an annex with 3 spacious bedroom suites.
The amenities include a well-appointed kitchen, separate laundry and staff suites, additional guest cottages and a separate, self-contained caretaker’s house with own entrance.
So six bedrooms total. There’s also “staff accommodation”, which adds to the Downton Abbey European elegance of it all.
Love it? Want it? It’s going for R69 million.
Pocket change.
