Ah yes, 1996 was a simpler time.
The Macarena song was causing horrid dance moves around the world, Prince Charles and Diana got divorced, and Bill Gates was far and away the wealthiest person on the planet.
One look at that picture above and you may also notice that Gates is the only tech business owner in the top 10. Fast forward to 2019, and there are now five tech business owners amongst the world’s 10 richest people.
The Telegraph has put together a very interesting animated graph showing how that top 10 has changed over the years.
With the exception of Carlos Slim, who made his money in the telecoms game, the red represents tech business owners:
