2019 seems to be the year that Apple is taking things to the next level.
Rumours about the new iPhones arriving this year started way before the release of the iPhone XS and XR were even announced, and we’ve been able to piece together a fair amount of info on what we can expect going forward.
For one thing, Apple is making some very important upgrades that are guaranteed to increase the lifespan and resilience of iPhones on offer.
iPhones will also be available in multiple sizes and at multiple price points to provide customers with a wide choice.
Here’s MacRumors with more on what we can expect:
It’s likely the 2019 iPhone lineup will look like the 2018 lineup, with premium OLED devices offered alongside more affordable LCD options, and that’s what we’ve heard from most rumors so far.
Apple’s 2019 iPhones could potentially be thinner and lighter due to the adoption of Samsung-designed OLED display technology called Y-OCTA, which integrates the touchscreen layer into the display panel…
Japanese site Mac Otakara believes that there could be two new iPhones in 2019 with triple-lens camera setups instead of one, one that measures in at 6.1 inches and one that measures in at 6.5 inches, both with OLED displays and slightly thicker bodies.
Mac Otakara’s info doesn’t mesh with other rumors, though, which have suggested the OLED models will come in 5.8 and 6.5 inch sizes like the current iPhone lineup.
That triple-lens camera would allow for a larger field of view.
Rumors suggest that Apple is perhaps planning to arrange the three cameras in a square-shaped camera bump on the back of the iPhone, which would require a large camera cutout for iPhone cases.
It’s not entirely clear yet if this is the layout Apple will use, as there have also been rumors of a horizontal triple-lens camera layout.
To simplify things here’s a very simple breakdown of the announcements, rumours and upgrades released last month:
The new iPhone series is set for release at some point in September.
When that happens, you’ll want to get down to Digicape, South Africa’s largest independent Apple retailer, for the best in Apple products and tech support.
If you’re a first time iPhone user you can even make a Fundi Booking – a one-on-one appointment with one of their ‘Apple Fundis’ – to discuss any question you have related to your Apple hardware or software.
Apple pros can also trade in their older Apple goodies (iPhones, iPads and Apple Watches) for discounts on the latest goodies.
Just the four months or so of rumours and speculation before we know what those will be.
