According to the latest Ipsos poll, the ANC should just about hit the 60% mark in the national election, and President Cyril Ramaphosa is largely to thank for that.
Some insiders believe that without Ramaphosa leading the ANC ‘on the path of reform’ (an uphill battle indeed), the party would struggle to achieve 50% of the national vote.
Perhaps the battle with the biggest implications for South Africa is the one that rages within the ANC itself, as Ramaphosa dukes it out against the ‘ANC Mafia’.
Given the wealth of puns presented by Ace Magashule, it’s no wonder that Zapiro decided to head for his deck. Here’s his latest effort on the Daily Maverick:
Ace doing the looting and stabbing in the back, and Cyril trying to hold South Africa’s crooks accountable.
I like the buffalo / cattle reference, too – very good.
Obviously, with it being election season, Zapiro has honed in on the theme. This cartoon, via Zapiro’s website, was posted on April 27:
Well, you can’t enrich yourselves and serve the best interests of the people at the same time. Sorry, people.
Whilst the cartoon featuring Ramaphosa and Ace was sympathetic to the current president, the same cannot be said for Zapiro’s cartoon dated April 18:
At least we got to laugh at his train misfortunes.
To finish, here’s a Carte Blanche story from a few weeks back, detailing how Magashule captured the Free State:
