When Kurt Darren was invited to sing at the Varsity Cup this year he had one job and 25 years to prepare for it:
Learn the national anthem.
The final of the Varsity Cup was between Stellenbosch University and the University of Pretoria at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch.
The Maties took the cup, easily downing Tuks 34-12.
That’s not what people will remember though. This is:

Awkward. Here’s The Citizen with a breakdown of what just happened:
After a faithful and accurate rendition of the first line of the Sesotho section, “Morena boloka setjhaba sa heso”, Darren did not manage the next line, “O fedise dintwa le matshwenyeho”, leaving it out entirely and instead replacing it with a Zulu line from the first verse, “Yizwa imithandazo, yethu”.
The reactions from the players and the kids are priceless:
What the shiii… Yoh #KurtDarren that’s not our national anthem, you and me included pic.twitter.com/pOzmOpoqDj
