Where do we start with Facebook?
There was last year’s massive privacy breach that left us all vulnerable.
And do you remember that time that Facebook patented technology that would allow them to use your phone’s microphone without you knowing?
Classic Facebook.
The point is that, over the years, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has shown very little concern for the privacy of others, while spending big on security to ensure his own.
This might be why the New York Times decided to invade his privacy a little by going through his trash, reports Business Insider.
After millions of Facebook users had their data exploited by Cambridge Analytica in 2016, the contents of Zuckerberg’s trash has been scraped and reported on by The New York Times.
In an interview with the Times on Sunday, trash picker Jake Orta – who lives three blocks from Zuckerberg in a single-window apartment – described how he rummages through San Francisco garbage bins for items to sell.
Among his targets is a blue recycling bin and black landfill bin belonging to Zuckerberg. Some of the items retrieved from Zuck’s trash include:
- A working coffee machine
- A working vacuum cleaner
- A hairdryer, again in working order
- A&W diet root beer cans
- Junk mail
- The remains of a chicken dinner
- A stale baguette
- Chinese takeout boxes
That’s a weird collection of trash items. I wonder what he had against the appliances?
Anyway, let’s hope he learns something from the experience. Maybe having his privacy invaded a little will inspire more efficient data protection.
