With the price of fuel continuing to skyrocket, filling up your tank can be a pretty harrowing experience.
For anyone who happened to be at the petrol station near Kenilworth Centre on Saturday at around 6:45PM, that’s especially true.
CCTV footage that spread on social media shows two gunmen opening fire on a man filling his tank.
It is reported that the shooting was a gang-style execution, with the deceased 46-year-old man having survived an attack earlier this year.
A warning that the footage may disturb some viewers:
The Caltex garage next to McDonalds (Kenilworth Centre). These guys didn’t come to play. I feel sorry for the people filling up their cars who had to witness this. I’d be traumatised for a long time. pic.twitter.com/VrHoTkAt5v

Yeah, I too would be traumatised.
Quite remarkably, some bystanders at the station actually gave chase and followed the shooters, with this below from Times LIVE:
The bystanders chased the gunmen’s hijacked car and alerted police about which direction it was heading after the shooting in Kenilworth, said Western Cape police spokesperson Lt-Col Andre Traut.
“The K-9 unit was quick to respond and, after a high-speed car chase which ended in Jakes Gerwel Drive in Goodwood, the four suspects were arrested,” said Traut.
He said police had to shoot at the tyres of the gold Toyota Avanza, which had been hijacked in Kleinvlei, to make it stop.
Thankfully, police managed to apprehend the four men, aged 20, 25, 29 and 35, who will appear in court on April 15.
“Our investigation has led us to believe that the four suspects have links with a local gang in the Cape Flats and we have reasons to believe that the attack was a gang-related crime,” said Traut.
From the footage available, I think that’s quite clearly the motive.
