I love a good podcast.
My personal favourites include The Savage Lovecast, This American Life, Lore and Serial (which is now a doccie).
It took a while to find them, though, because there are a lot of podcasts out there and not all of them are top-quality.
Lore, in particular, keeps me company while I do the dishes. It’s a story-telling podcast that goes into the unsettling myths, legends and real-life creepy events that make up our history.
Guaranteed to make the most mundane of tasks less mind-numbing.
If creepy podcasts are your thing, then you’ll also like Unwell, the newest podcast on my listen-list that’s giving Lore a bit of competition.
Here’s The Verge:
HartLife’s new podcast series Unwell is a good example horror storytelling. After her mother is injured, a woman named Lillian Harper moves in with her mother in the very small town of Mt. Absalom, Ohio to help her recover. When she arrives, she rediscovers the strangeness of small-town middle America.
Lillian and her mother have been estranged for years, and when she returns to her mother’s home — a boarding house that’s been in her family for generations, she comes across a host of strange characters, as well as deep-seated conspiracies and ghosts.
You can listen to Unwell on this website, where you’ll also find transcripts of the show.
Parts of the series feels as though it’s akin to shows like Twin Peaks or Sharp Objects: stories set in, and dealing with characters who live in insular communities. It’s a type of story that has a long history within horror canon, and lends itself well to supernatural mischief.
Definitely worth a listen – just not before bedtime, and not in the dark.
