1992 has been declared the worst year of the Queen’s reign, and Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew helped make that happen.
Fergie was royally exiled after a “toe-sucking” incident on a yacht, which was one of the many events that contributed to her separation, and later divorce, from Prince Andrew.
All of this is why things got a little heavy at their daughter’s wedding last year.
Still, somehow, through all the scandal, Andrew and Fergie have kept it together and come out as friends. Now it looks like they might be more than friends again.
Here’s Now To Love:
Last week, amid bookies slashing odds on a royal re-engagement, a rep for Andrew insisted, “The Duke and Duchess of York continue to be good friends and nothing has changed.”
But royal watchers were not convinced, especially when Fergie joined her 59-year-old ex-husband on their first joint official trip in 25 years to Bahrain as guests of the Crown Prince.
Apparently, they only needed one suite at the hotel, which isn’t a surprise considering that they’ve pretty much been living together for the last while. New Idea has a palace source who is convinced that not only are they together, but they’re engaged:
“Fergie and Andrew are closer than ever and while they’ve long denied rumours of a rekindled romance, it is common knowledge within the palace that they are together and are making definite plans for the future.”
But despite their plans to remarry at some point, Sarah and Andrew have decided not to reveal anything publicly yet.
While there are reports this is because the couple want to wait until after the Duke of Edinburgh has died – he has long disapproved of Fergie, once calling her a “royal embarrassment” and “having no point” – there are other, more touching, reasons they’ve held back.
That’s a bit depressing. They must have been a tad disappointed when Prince Philip made it out of that motor accident in one piece.
On to the more “touching reasons”:
They want to focus on their family and wait until their daughters are happily settled before turning the spotlight on their own relationship.
“Fergie and Andrew have a very strong family unit and their daughters mean everything to them.
“Both of their girls are moving into new phases of their lives – Bea plans to marry soon and Eugenie is in baby mode – so they really want to just focus on their daughters over the next 12 months.”
The will-they-won’t-they of it all should keep the tabloids busy for a while.
Either way, it looks like Andrew and Fergie are making a comeback.
