In a simpler time, Facebook was a way to share photos and stay in touch with friends from all over the world.
It has since morphed into something very different, and half the fun now is watching strangers on Facebook groups sharing details of their lives.
Not a day goes by where a seemingly innocuous post doesn’t devolve into people name-calling, arguing and self-righteousness. Given that we’re almost at the end of another week, let’s engage in a spot of people watching.
The following post, sent to us by a reader we’ll call S, is apparently ‘the most Muizenberg post ever’, and it starts off with a rather interesting double act.
Posted on Muizenberg Notice Board – Public, which is a closed group, someone is looking for a maths tutor that doubles as a surf coach.
Sure, that’s probably a thing in Muizies:
‘Cool but strict’ is the new ‘harsh but fair’.
So far so good, but then things take a turn.
Looks like there’s a maths tutor out there who just discovered the bad news.
Woah, more twists and turns than an M. Night Shyamalan movie.
The tutor finds out he’s been sacked (or she, we don’t know at this point), the community rallies around him, and he says it’s because he won’t tolerate the boy’s rudeness.
Then the mother who made the original post returns, and says that her son failed maths last term, which is a not so subtle dig at the tutor’s skills.
I am reminded of that Kommetjie surfer’s angry voice note that went viral a while back, but we digress.
Alright, I have questions…
Where does this leave us now? What happened next? Will someone swoop in to save the day, both maths-wise and surfing-wise?
Most importantly, how will the new tutor strike the balance between being cool and strict? Err either way, and you could find out you’ve been sacked via Facebook.
Sadly, because the group is closed and we’re not members, we don’t know how this has ended.
Just rest easy in the knowledge that down Muizenberg side, there are employment opportunities for surfers with a decent grasp of mathematics.
Thanks, S
