We may never know what has happened to Madeleine McCann, but it won’t be for lack of trying.
It’s been almost 12 years since she went missing from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, in Portugal’s Algarve region, and efforts to uncover what happened on that evening have captivated the world.
More recently, The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann once again brought the case to the fore, leading to renewed interest in the case.
For the latest, here’s the Mirror:
The long-running probe – Operation Grange – has so far cost £12,000,000 but Scotland Yard revealed earlier this month that it would need more money to continue the search…
The Home Office issued a new payment of £150,000 to go towards finding Maddie in October but that is reported to have run out.
A Home Office spokesperson it had ‘received and are considering’ a request for more funding to extend Operation Grange until the end of March 2020. But according to the Mail on Sunday, the operation’s detectives now rarely visit the Portuguese resort [pictured abive] and are said to have no ‘earth-shattering leads’ in the investigation.
That’s a far cry from the 31 detectives working on the case at its peak, and it’s reported that those in charge of the investigation made just two trips to Portugal in the past two years.
As things stand, detectives are said to be mainly ruling people out, rather than chasing new leads.
If you’re unfamiliar with the case, or you want to revisit how it all played out, it’s certainly worth watching The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann:
