At this stage, you’re either using ride-hailing apps or you’re living in the past.
Thankfully, Uber is leading the way when it comes to thinking about your safety, which is the driving force behind their latest campaign.
The ‘Safety Never Stops’ campaign is designed to create awareness about in-vehicle safety and the multiple safety features already available on the app for riders.
Safety features range from 24/7 phone support, the ability to share your exact location and ETA with a friend, and quick push-of-a-button access to in-app emergency assistance from a third party supplier.
Uber drivers are heavily screened before they’re allowed to drive for the company. They’re also verified with random selfie checks.
You can now also see information about your driver before you enter the vehicle, and should always check that the driver on the app is the driver in the driver’s seat.
Here’s a summary of all of the ways Uber gets you to your destination safely via the campaign’s worldwide advert:
It doesn’t stop there. Uber is constantly thinking up new ways to make your trip even safer.
The Daily Maverick recently ran through five key ways that the company ensures the professionalism of its drivers.
Professional Drivers Permit (PrDP)
Did you know that your driver has a Professional Drivers Permit (PrDP)? One of the first steps to becoming a driver is ensuring they have submitted a valid PrDP which is issued by the traffic licensing department.
Automated Fingerprint identification systems (AFIS)
Next, before the driver can get out onto the road is the fingerprint identification system check. We have made sure that all drivers have undergone the AFIS checks.
Vehicle inspection
When you jump into the backseat, you can be confident that the vehicle you have boarded has passed an inspection test to ensure it is roadworthy. This is done at Uber’s Approved Inspection Centre and we make sure it is done annually. Again this test is not a legal requirement, but an additional safety requirement from Uber.
Driving Skills
You can be at ease that your driver not only has a Professional Drivers Permit, but has also passed a third-party driving evaluation test which tests the driver’s ability to drive safely and according to road regulations.
Last but not least
Before a driver-partner is activated and is able to operate on the app, we invest our time to take drivers through an information session at our various Green Light Hubs (onboarding centres) across all cities that we operate in.
In other words, when you hop in that car, you can rest assured that the driver is primed to get you where you’re going.
