We feel you, Zapiro.
As things stand, we may have a Friday with just the odd bout of blackouts, but that’s still not really good enough.
Given that experts are talking about stage five and six (and beyond), the problem is here to stay, and it’s going to take some serious skill to haul our national power supplier out of the mess they’ve made for themselves.
Thankfully, we have assembled a highly-skilled team of the world’s finest minds to turn this thing around, and if you believe that, then you’ll believe anything.
In his March 21 cartoon for the Daily Maverick, Zapiro put pen to paper and mirrored what many of us are feeling about the Eskom rescue efforts.
I have no doubt that the engineers and people on the ground are doing their utmost, but in the top corridors of the state-owned enterprise, the corrupt are simply trying to cover their tracks.
You may recognise some of this technical team:
I didn’t know it was possible to hate minions more than I already do, but that box is ticked.
For Human Rights Day yesterday, Zapiro again took a pot shot at Eskom. Once more from the Daily Maverick:
I think he’s miffed at them, but he also wanted to enjoy his day off, so kept things pretty simple.
Not as good as the panel of experts cartoon from up top (or the EFF assault effort from February), but point taken.
If you lacked sufficient foresight, and didn’t take today off, I hope you’re working from home and the power stays on.
