Losing your job is never a good time, and when you’ve been with your employer for 15 years, you’re entitled to a decent send-off.
Sacked Good Hope FM DJ Nigel Pierce is clearly unimpressed with the behaviour of the SABC, who booted him off the air earlier this month without any warning.
The station confirmed to IOL that Pierce was taken off air for “breaching his contract and bringing the SABC into disrepute on social media platforms”.
He was originally told that his final day would be March 29, but things quickly spiralled. Here’s Channel24 with those details, before we get to the rants:
“Wednesday morning at 10 I went in for contract negotiations. I was told my contract would not be renewed. It had been renewed for 15 years, so there’s a high expectation of permanency within that particular environment,” explains Nigel.
“I went on air at 5 o’clock on Wednesday afternoon; told listeners my last show would be 29 March 2019. I again told them on Thursday; nothing malicious. On Friday I got a note, in the foyer of the SABC, saying my services are no longer required for the remainder of my contract.”
“I was also locked out of the studio – access denied – I was not told that my access was denied when I reported for duty on Friday afternoon. Sad. Very, very sad,” explained Nigel.
“I do have a few questions for Good Hope FM. How can I be in so-called breach of contract if I didn’t sign the confidential letter, and why did Good Hope FM allow me on air when I told them before the meeting on Wednesday that I would not be signing the so-called confidentiality letter?” he asked in another video.
Since being booted from the station, Pierce has been very active on Instagram (his account is ‘The Radio Police’ @nigelpierce), posting a series of videos calling out his former colleagues and the SABC.
At the time of writing, he had posted six videos in the past week:
OK, let’s start with the shirtless video:
Whilst he didn’t call him out by name, Pierce lambasted his ex-colleague, sports presenter Dalin Oliver, in another video:

When informed that his invoice, which sought payment for the entirety of March, was denied, Pierce again took to Instagram:

Over on Twitter, some folks aren’t all that impressed:
Given what we know about the SABC (it’s a money-haemorrhaging mess that has been run into the ground), I don’t blame Pierce for being pissed off.
Then again, I’m not sure prospective employees are going to find the social media posts all that endearing, and he might want to step back for a second.
